Potions, oils, scrolls and other one-use items follow the same rules as permanent items, with two differences:
- Half the MP. Consumables have half the minimum (2024: half price). That halves the charging time automatically.
- Cast the spell in. Only one caster per item can cast a spell into it. It covers half the MP and takes as long as copying a spell into a spellbook: 2 hours per spell level (cantrip 1 hour). The rest is charged normally by any class.
Table – one charger, long rests
| Rarity (charger, rate) | Permanent | Consumable | Consumable + caster |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common (lvl 3, 60) | 50 → 1 | 25 → 1 | 1 |
| Uncommon (lvl 3, 60) | 200 → 4 | 100 → 2 | 1 |
| Rare (lvl 8, 240) | 2,000 → 9 | 1,000 → 5 | 3 |
| Very rare (lvl 14, 700) | 20,000 → 29 | 10,000 → 15 | 8 |
| Legendary (lvl 18, 1,080) | 100,000 → 93 | 50,000 → 47 | 24 |
Potions
Base (1 portion of liquid, grade = gate) + reagent (1 portion of herb = core; the standard recipe uses grade = rarity) + optional special ingredient. Missing capacity is filled with free capacity, as on any recipe card.
Example – Greater Healing (Uncommon consumable, 100 MP): spring water (Medium liquid) + a Medium medicinal herb. A cleric casts cure wounds in (2 hours, 50 MP). The last 50 MP are charged by a level 3 charger in one long rest.
2024 reference: a Potion of Healing is made with an herbalism kit, costs 25 gp and takes 1 day.
